Hand Casting using plaster

Reaching

Medium: Plaster clay strips, construction paper, fishing wire, hot glue, scotch tape, newspaper, nails on canvas

Size: 9 x 12 x 13 inches

Inspired by previous work this piece emphasizes the longing for change seen in the imagery used. The butterflies in this piece represent change and transitioning into a new life. The butterfly cutouts are hung using fishing wire between the casts of my own hands to convey the idea of the desire to create change within myself. The hands were placed in this position to seem as if they were attempting to catch the butterflies, therefore to emphasize the idea of the longing to change.

Technology and its effect on Family Bonds

Technology can be designed to reinforce family bonds in extended families. However, there are limitations to technology aiding family bonds. There have been breakthroughs, like Facetime, group calendars, and even social media however these come with limitations. Designing technology to reinforce family bonds in extended families rather than breaking them requires careful consideration of the needs and dynamics of these families (ChatGPT). To design technology that is inclusive to extended families we need to consider inclusivity, shared experiences, and connectivity.
